How to pass F1000 pre-publication checks

Our publishing process
The F1000 publishing model
Our publishing model is open, transparent, and straightforward.
First, submit your article to undergo our pre-publication checks and upload your research data to a repository. Once we’re confident the article meets our editorial and ethical standards, it will be immediately published on your chosen publishing venue. Expert peer reviewers will review your research post-publication. You can re-submit revised versions of your work to address reviewer feedback or provide the latest updates.
Our publishing process
Article types
At F1000, we encourage authors to decide which research outputs to publish. That’s why we offer a range of article types beyond the traditional Research Article, including Study Protocols, Case Reports, Method Articles, Software Tool Articles, and many more.
Publishing different article types empowers you to tell the full story of your research, while maximizing its potential impact and supporting reproducibility.
Our publishing process
Data policies and repositories
We believe that sharing research data accelerates the pace of discovery, provides credit and recognition for authors, and improves public trust in research. It’s also essential that other researchers have access to raw data to analyze it and replicate the study.
We’re proud of the progressive open data policy in place across all publishing venues powered by F1000. The open data policy requires authors to share all datasets underpinning their research.
Our publishing process
Ethics
All F1000 publishing venues adhere to the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. As part of our pre-publication checks, our Editorial team review every submitted paper to ensure all published research meets the ten core practices of COPE.
To avoid delays or rejections, your paper must comply with our ethical policies around originality, copyright, competing interests, and clinical trial registrations.
Our publishing process
Submitting your article
You can submit your paper online by completing the simple submission form of your chosen publishing venue. Before heading to the submission system, please make sure you meet all our author criteria and editorial policies. F1000 is a member organization of ORCID and supports the use of ORCID iDs where possible. For this reason, it is mandatory that the submitting author completes their submission using an ORCID iD.
Our publishing process
Pre-publication checks
Our Editorial team carries out a series of pre-publication checks to ensure your work meets our quality and ethical standards. This includes:
Authorship and author affiliation
Plagiarism
Data availability
Ethics
Article type and reporting
Language of the article
Our publishing process
Peer review
All F1000 publishing venues operate an open peer review model. There are many different definitions of open peer review, all of which describe a model where aspects of peer review are made publicly available. At F1000, open peer review:
Starts immediately following publication
Is carried out by expert reviewers
Is fully transparent as reports are published alongside the article together with reviewer names and affiliations
Our publishing process
Article versioning
Publishing on an F1000 publishing venue is more dynamic than in traditional journals, as our articles are still “developing” after the authors’ initial version is published. The F1000 versioning system allows authors to resubmit revised versions of their article in response to peer reviewer comments or provide updates on the latest developments.
Versions are all individually citable and clearly linked, making it easy for readers to navigate and cite the version they want.
