Digital Twin publishing venue developed by Beihang University partnered with the F1000 and Taylor & Francis has been successfully selected into “Excellence Action Plan for China’s STM Journals” by the Chinese government.

Digital Twin is the world’s first open research publishing venue dedicated to digital twin academic research. The award recognises the unique contribution of open research methods to the study of digital twin research, which is an inherently interdisciplinary field of academia.

Digital Twin is an international, multidisciplinary, open access publishing Platform for researchers, practitioners and experts covering all areas of digital twin technologies. Since digital twin encompasses many disciplines across science, technology and medicine, Beihang University partnered with open research publisher F1000 of Taylor & Francis Group, and created this global hub for new outputs in digital twin research and applications.

The Excellence Action Plan is a joint initiative organised by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the General Administration of Press and Publication, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.  Its aim is to identify and nurture a group of high-quality Chinese journals.

F1000 Managing Director Rebecca Lawrence commented:

“This achievement represents a significant milestone for the Digital Twin platform and for F1000’s commercial activities in China. It demonstrates the role of open research publishing in driving industry innovation. F1000 is pleased to be delivering such a high-quality publishing venue on this vital area of study.”

Fei Tao, Professor from Beihang University & Digital Twin Chief Advisor, commented:

“Many thanks to F1000, Taylor & Francis Group and the publishing team for their outstanding work. Digital Twin platform is designed to facilitate researchers and engineers to exchange ideas and share research findings, to accelerate the innovations of digital twin. This success represents a significant milestone for the Digital Twin platform and indicates that Digital Twin has attracted wide attention and formed a widespread and profound influence.”

About Beihang University

Beihang University (BUAA), previously known as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was founded on 1952. Since its founding, BUAA has excelled as one of the first 16 key universities in China, given priority for development. BUAA has evolved into an open, comprehensive, research-oriented university with focuses on aeronautics, astronautics and informatics. BUAA is deeply committed to an education that fosters innovation and intercultural awareness. For now, over 200,000 BUAA graduates have become an active part of various industries, fully showing the features of integrity, sincerity, innovation, responsibility and being a doer with achievements.

Beihang was the earliest start in the digital twin research. The Digital Twin Research Group at BUAA, which is leading by Prof. Fei Tao, has published four books about digital twin, more than 50 papers of which including an article in Nature, and holds more than 20 patents about digital twin. The group proposed the concept of digital twin shop-floor (DTS) and published the first paper about DTS in January 2017, which has been cited and studied by many institutes worldwide, and also have been used in practice by more than 20 group companies.  Besides, The Group proposed a novel five-dimensional digital twin model, which has been applied in more than 20 different industrial fields. For further development and industrial application of digital twin, maturity model and the systems of theories, technologies, tools and standards of digital twin are established by the Group at BUAA together with other institutes. Furthermore, the group initiated the first academic conference on digital twin, the Conference on Digital Twin and Smart Manufacturing Service, together with 12 universities in 2017. Since then, the conference has been successfully organized annually for six years, directly benefiting over 1,000 participants.
