How does F1000Research differ from traditional journals?
F1000Research
Authors can publish all their research outputs.
At F1000Research, we believe that research doesn’t have to be packaged as a traditional Research Article to be valuable. We accept Research Articles for publication but also welcome a wide variety of other article types.

We accept articles based on research quality not research novelty.
All articles that meet our quality and ethical standards are published. We believe that all valid research deserves publication, which is why we welcome confirmatory and negative results, as well as null studies.

Open peer review takes place after publication.
Articles that pass our pre-publication checks are immediately published and citable. Invited reviewers then conduct peer review and post their reports alongside the published article for anyone to read and comment on.

Publishing research on an open access publishing venue accelerates its availability for researchers and the public alike. F1000Research performs quality checks before acceptance, and peer review begins immediately following publication, with the article’s peer review status visible. This is particularly beneficial in fast-changing situations such as the pandemic.

Some of the highest quality and most useful reviews I’ve had on any papers anywhere were on papers published at F1000Research. Not free of criticism of the work! But I know I at least write more thoughtfully as a reviewer when I will be signing my name.

We chose an open research publishing venue so anyone can see the first version of the article and the peer reviews, as well as the coming responses to the peer reviews and second version of the article. Also, it is helpful to be able to read research quickly without the delays of traditional peer review, which is often a time-consuming process.
