What is F1000?

The core database is updated daily and includes over 100,000 evaluations of the top published articles in biology and medicine.

Articles are selected, scored, and evaluated by our Faculty of over 10,000 expert scientists and clinical researchers who cover over 3,000 peer-reviewed journals.

The Faculty

Composed of 5,000 Heads of Faculty, Heads of Section and Faculty Members, and 5,000 Associate Faculty Members.

Nobel Laureates, Lasker Award winners and Fellows of the Royal Society.

Highly respected in their chosen fields and nominated by their peers.

Evaluated Articles

  1. Evaluated Articles are collated by Faculty and Section (subspecialty), cross-indexed, and tagged – making them easy to search and browse.
  2. Faculty Members and their Associate Faculty Members select and evaluate the best articles they have read in their specialties.
  3. Evaluations are brief, accessible comments, highlighting the key findings and putting the work into context, accompanied by numerical scores to allow calculation of ratings and rankings.

F1000 Ratings and Rankings

  1. Articles are rated scored Recommended (6), Must Read (8), or Exceptional (10).
  2. Combined scores from multiple evaluations of the same article are used to calculate the F1000 Article Factors (FFa), which allow us to rank the articles across all specialties.
  1. The highest-ranked articles are listed for all of biology and medicine, and for each of the Faculty subject areas. Categories include All Time and Current Top 10s, Hidden Jewels, as well as All Time and Current Most Viewed.
  1. Journals that have published articles evaluated in F1000 are also ranked. The combined FFa values from each article are used to calculate Journal Factors (FFj) for each calendar year. Read more about how Journal Rankings are calculated.

F1000 Reports

  1. Open access review journals publishing peer-reviewed reports on emerging themes, putting the evaluated literature into context.
  2. F1000 Section Heads ensure coverage of the latest advances by selecting topics and nominating experts to serve as authors; cited articles link back to their evaluations. Indexed and/or abstracted by PubMed, PubMed Central, Scopus, Embase, Global Health and CAB Abstracts.

F1000 Posters

  1. An open access repository of conference posters and oral presentations from across biology and medicine.
  2. Provides a permanent, structured environment as well as a venue for ongoing discussion and development of the information being presented.
  3. Posters are also eligible for evaluation by the Faculty.
