BIOGRAPHY:
Claudio Ciferri obtained his BS degree in biology from the Unversity of Bari, Italy. In 2001 he moved to Andrea Musacchio's Laboratory at the European Institute of Oncology where he earned his PhD in 2006. During this period he characterized and solved structure of the human kinetochore complex Ndc80 by X-ray crystallography. This work, published in Cell in 2008, represents the first structure of any human kinetochore complex. He continued his research in the field structural biology as post-doctoral fellow in the Eva Nogales lab at University of California, Berkeley. Claudio Ciferri's research now focuses on elucidating the structure of human macromolecular complexes involved in Epigenetic using cryo-electron microscopy.
