Research in my lab focuses on how the primary body axis of vertebrate embryos is patterned and on the evolution of these patterning mechanisms. One major area of interest is hindbrain patterning, where our interest in Hox gene function has led us to study migration of the facial branchiomotor neurons. We also have ongoing projects to investigate regionalization of the endoderm, with special emphaisis on specification of the pancreas and the role of retinoic acid signaling in pancreas development.
