BIOGRAPHY

ACADEMIC POSITIONS:
• Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
• Director of the Fellowship Training Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas City, MO

MEMBERSHIP/AWARDS:
Dr Sharma is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians, and has received the American College of Gastroenterology Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. Dr Sharma is also a recent recipient of a Career Development Award from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association Castell Esophagus Clinical Research Award. He is also a recipient of a Merit Award.

Dr Sharma is a reviewer for most of the major medicine and gastroenterology subspecialty journals including Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Annals of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Gut and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr Sharma is a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI's) Barrett's esophagus working group, former Chair of the American College of Gastroenterology Public Relations Committee, former Chair of American Gastroenterology Association ABIM-Subcommittee and a member of the American Society Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Research Committee.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Upper gastrointestinal diseases including Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
