Research Interests:
The primary research focus of my laboratory is to understand how peptide growth factors are able to regulate cell growth and differentiation and how mutations in these processes can lead to cancer. The ubiquitous growth factor and cytokine Jak-Stat signal transduction pathway was discovered in my laboratory and continues to be a major focus of our research. To this end we have followed several approaches including the study of

1. Regulation of the STAT transcription factors by growth factors and oxidative stress;
2. Role of STAT3 in cancer stem cells especially glioblastoma
3. Role of histone demethylases in the regulation of cancer stem cells
4. The development of mammalian haploid cells as a genetic system
