BIOGRAPHY
Dr Carl-Fredrik Burman is Statistical Science Director at AstraZeneca, where he has worked since 1995. He has experiences from the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and diabetes areas and has contributed to the development of drugs such as Losec, Nexium, Seloken and Galida. Since 1999, he has served in various innovative projects and methodological functions. In 2009, he was nominated Senior Principal Scientist, corresponding to a top-100 rank among AstraZeneca's scientists. He is currently coordinating Modelling & Simulation activities and leads research projects on adaptive dose-finding and optimisation of drug development.Dr Burman holds a M.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics (1988) and a Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics (1996), both from Chalmers Univ. of Tech., Sweden. In 2005, he received the PSI (Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry) best paper award for an article on modeling. More recently, he has published in the fields of study design, multiplicity adjustments, risk assessment, dose-finding and medical ethics. He serves as a council member of EFSPI (European Federation for Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry), as an associated editor of J. Bioph. Stat. and as the leader of PhRMA's work-stream on adaptive programmes. The father of five children, Dr Burman is currently working part time, and has been on paternal leave on average 20% since 1998.
