BIOGRAPHY
ACADEMIC POSITION:Professor: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Laboratoire des Processus Ioniques Cellulaires, University of Rouen, France
EDUCATION:
Qualifications include a degree in Psychology (University of Manchester), Biology and Mathematics (Open University), DEA in Microbiology (Institut de Genetique et Microbiologie, Orsay), and a PhD on the termination of DNA replication in E. coli (Institut Jacques Monod).
AWARDS:
Winner with Annabelle Merieau of Elie Wollman Prize 2009
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
How does a bacterium produce a coherent, reproducible, selectable series of phenotypes from the hyperastronomical number apparently available? A possible answer that my collaborators and I explore lies in the concept of hyperstructures which are large assemblies of different macromolecules, which exist in non-equilibrium and equilibrium flavours and which constitute a level of organisation intermediate between the macromolecule and the cell.
