RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Carolyn Ecelbarger is investigating the effects of insulin on the kidney. Her research is focused on molecular mechanisms that link hyperinsulinemia to sodium retention and hypertension in rodent models. Principal mechanisms include assessment of renal sodium transport proteins bumetanide sensitive NaCl cotransporters. Animal techniques include telemetric BP, indices of insulin sensitivity and sodium handling. Molecular techniques include protein expression of sodium transporters with confocal imaging of their subcellular distribution, microarray and real-time PCR.
