Research Interests:
The Warren lab employs Trypanosoma brucei as a model system to study the biogenesis of the Golgi apparatus. This ancient eukaryote has a simplified secretory pathway which allows us to study many processes, such as Golgi duplication, that are not readily accessible in other organisms.
Recently, we identified a novel centrin-containing bi-lobed structure that underlies the Golgi apparatus and plays a role in the inheritance of the organelle. Currently, we are identifying components of the bi-lobed structure with the goal of understanding its function as a template for Golgi inheritance. Conserved elements of the bi-lobe may be candidates for involvement in Golgi duplication in higher organisms.
