Research interests:

The Geschwind lab is interested in understanding the genetic basis of human cognitive specializations, autism and neurodegenerative diseases. They use a combination of genetic and neurobiological methods in their work and frequently collaborate with laboratories with expertise in other disciplines, such as cognitive psychology, stem cells, neuroimaging, statistics and linguistics. One methodological focuses involves the application of genomic screening methods, such as cDNA microarray technology for gene expression analysis and gene discovery. Any other information: Dr. Geschwind chaired the scientific steering committee of the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE, 1999-2004) and is member of the Cure Autism Now (CAN) Scientific Advisory Board (now merged with Autism Speaks). He also serves on the editorial boards of Lancet Neurology and Current Genomics and is Associate Editor of Neurobiology of Disease. He received the Derek Denny-Brown Neurological Scholar Award, American Neurological Association in 2004.
