BIOGRAPHY

Shanti Balasubramaniam is an Associate Faculty Member who works with Janice Fletcher to evaluate the literature relevant to their research interests.

CURRENT POSITION:
Shanti is currently being peer reviewed as a specialist physician under the Royal Australasian College of Physicians provisions for overseas trained practitioners. She is employed as a Metabolic Fellow, Genetics and Molecular Pathology, SA Pathology (Women’s and Children’s Hospital). Prior to this, she worked as a Consultant Clinical Geneticist and Metabolic Physician in her home country, Malaysia, before migrating to Australia.

EDUCATION:
Shanti graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Medicine and Surgery at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education in India. She subsequently completed her specialization in General Pediatrics in 2004 through the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK (MRCPCH). Her interests in Clinical Genetics and in particular Metabolic Medicine lead her to further sub-specialise in the field of Clinical Genetics. She was awarded a Public Service Department of Malaysia scholarship for overseas fellowship training and spent a year as an honorary fellow in Genetic Metabolic Medicine at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, Australia.

AWARDS:
Shanti was a recipient of 2 outstanding service awards conferred by the Public Service Department, Malaysia, in 2003 and 2006.
