Serge Laroche - F1000 Faculty Member (since 11 July 2008)
UMR 8620, Neurosciences, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Université Paris-Sud, Orsay, France
BIOGRAPHY
ACADEMIC POSITION:Director of Research at CNRS and Director of the Centre of Neuroscience Paris-Sud, National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris Sud University, Orsay, France
EDUCATION:
PhD in Neuroscience at University Paris VI Pierre & Marie Curie
MEMBERSHIP/ AWARDS:
Serge Laroche has served on various Scientific boards at CNRS and Universities. He is also Director of the CNRS Unit 'Neurosciences of Memory'" which assembles 33 teams in the field of the neural bases of learning and memory in France. He was the recipient of the CNRS Silver Medal in 1995.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Research in my group focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and of memory. The approach, from genes to function, is directed to the identification of cellular and synaptic changes underlying learning and memory, and to the functional characterisation of the role of signalling cascades, transcriptional regulators, and the regulation of genes and proteins underlying different phases of plasticity and forms of memory. Research in his team cover different facets of plasticity and memory, ranging from synaptic mechanisms to adult neurogenesis, complemented by the analysis of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of memory dysfunction associated with neurodegenerative and genetically-based neurological diseases.
