BIOGRAPHY
Linda S. Birnbaum is the Division Director of the Experimental Toxicology Division (ETD), of the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, conducting research to determine the health effects of environmental pollutants. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Illinois - Urbana, and has held several different positions with NIEHS before joining the EPA. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology and a fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences.Dr. Birnbaum is the author of over 650 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, abstracts, and reports. She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and at Duke University. Dr. Birnbaum is the former Vice President of the American Aging Association, the former Chairperson of the Division of Toxicology of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and the former President of the Society of Toxicology.
She has received numerous awards, including the Conservation Award from the National Wildlife Fund, the Ambassador Award from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Society of Toxicology, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Health Science Achievement Award and the Diversity Leadership Award, and numerous EPA Science and Technological Achievement Awards.
