BIOGRAPHY

ACADEMIC POSITIONS:

SOCIETY POSITIONS:
Dr Wenger is Past Vice-President of the American Heart Association, Past Governor for Georgia of the American College of Cardiology and Past-President of the Georgia Heart Association.

She is a member and frequently chairperson of over 500 committees, scientific advisory boards, task forces, and councils of the American Medical Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the Society of Geriatric Cardiology.

She is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Geriatric Cardiology, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and the American College of Chest Physicians.

AWARDS:
Dr Wenger is a master of the American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association awarded her the Distinguished Achievement Award, the Women in Cardiology Mentoring Award, and the highest award of the Association, the Gold Heart Award. She received the James E Bruce Memorial Award of the American College of Physicians, for Distinguished Contributions in Preventive Medicine, was named Physician of the Year by the American Heart Association, received the Hatter Award, for advancement of cardiovascular science (2006) and is listed in Best Doctors in America.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr Wenger has had longitudinal involvement in major multicenter clinical trials, beginning with the Coronary Drug Project, the Urokinase Pulmonary Embolism Trial, and the Urokinase Streptokinase Pulmonary Embolism Trial. More recently, she has been involved on the Steering Committee of the Treating to New Targets Trial, and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Heart and Estrogen/progestin Replacement Study (HERS), and HERS II. Dr Wenger has been active in the Women's Health Initiative at the Emory site and on national writing committees. She was the co-principal investigator for the international Raloxifene Use for The Heart (RUTH) trial. She has worked with the Centers for Disease Control on several projects related to genetic polymorphisms and their effects on anticoagulant therapy.

FACULTY OF 1000:
Dr Wenger joined Faculty of 1000 as a Faculty Member for the Pregnancy, Labor, Delivery & Postpartum Care Section (in the Women's Health Faculty) on November 16th 2005.

On January 21st 2011, following an invitation from Jeff Anderson and Frans Van de Werf (Heads of the Cardiovascular Disorders Faculty), Dr Wenger was appointed as a Section Head for the Geriatric Cardiology Section.
