BIOGRAPHY
Talmadge King is Constance B. Wofsy Distinguished Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine at UCSF. He is Chief of Medical Services, San Francisco General Hospital.His overall focus has been on understanding the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of inflammatory and immunology lung injury. In particular, his group are improving our understanding of the immunopathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Another aim is to develop and evaluate methods that can serially identify the presence and extent of disease activity in these patients. With support from the Department of Medicine, they have developed an Interstitial Lung Disease Center of Excellence.
Professor King is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is an active member of a number of professional societies, past President of the American Thoracic Society and has served on the Lung Biology and Pathology Study Section of the NIH; the Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine; American Board of Medical Specialties, Pulmonary and Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the FDA; NIH Advisory Board for Clinical Research (ABCR); and the Board of Extramural Advisors of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. He is a member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Thorax, and UpToDate In Pulmonary and Critical Care.
