BIOGRAPHY

Alan T Hirsch is the Director of the Vascular Medicine Program at Minneapolis Heart Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is Medical Director, Abbott Northwestern's VascularCenter, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.His research interests include new pharmacotherapeutic and biobehavioral treatments for peripheral vascular diseases; assessment and pharmacological intervention for individuals with 'intermediate' cardiovascular risk; community-based peripheral arterial disease detection, systemic risk and claudication treatment interventions, and global vascular outcome assessments; and assessment of the impact of clinician and public education regarding peripheral arterial and venous diseases.

Professor Hirsch is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the AmericanCollege of Cardiology, the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences, the Council on Clinical Cardiology, the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, and Interdisciplinary Working Group on Atherosclerotic Peripheral Vascular Disease, and the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology. He chairs the AmericanCollege of Cardiology-American Heart Association Writing Committee for Peripheral Arterial Disease Management Guidelines. Professor Hirsch is a founding board member and former president of the Vascular Disease Foundation.
