BIOGRAPHY

Steven graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research (MSOR) from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and an MSc in Biometry from the University of Reading. For his PhD from University College London, which he did part time while working in industry, he investigated the issue of designing clinical trials when you have imprecise estimates to base calculations on.

Previously to working for the University of Sheffield, Steven started his career at the University of Southampton before joining GlaxoWellcome and then SmithKlineBeecham which was GlaxoSmithKline upon his leaving.

Steven has an interest in all aspects of clinical trials from molecule through to marketplace. In particular, he has an interest in clinical trial design (and innovative designs) and the development of new technologies (such as quality of life scales) related to clinical trials.

He is currently writing two books: the first on early phase trials and the second on sample size estimation.
