BIOGRAPHY

CURRENT POSITIONS:
• Investigator at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research
• Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, The University of Kansas Medical Center

EDUCATION:
Dr Conaway received her AB in chemistry and biology from Bryn Mawr College and her PhD in cell biology from the Stanford University School of Medicine, where she worked with Roger Kornberg. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the DNAX Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, Joan was a faculty member in the Program in Molecular and Cell Biology at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, where she was also an Associate Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

AWARDS, HONORS:
In 1997, Joan was a joint recipient with Ronald Conaway of the ASBMB-Amgen Award, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Analysis of the molecular mechanism and regulation of gene transcription.
