EDUCATION:
Medical degree at the University of Pavia, Italy in 1982 cum laude; post-graduate diploma in Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Pavia, Italy in 1986 cum laude; post-graduate diploma in Neuropathology at the University of Verona, Italy in 1992 cum laude.

MEMBERSHIPS/AWARDS:
• National coordinator of the Italian study group on Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care of the Italian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine SIAARTI from 2000 to 2006
• Member of the Board of Directors of the GiViTI (Gruppo Italiano di Valutazione degli Interventi in Terapia Intensiva http://www.giviti.marionegri.it/ ) from 1999 to 2010
• Member of the Board of Directors and co-founder of the inter-university research center 'Thomas C Chalmers' (http://users.unimi.it/chalmers/ ) for the methodology of systematic reviews and the promotion of Evidence-Based Medicine from 2001 to date
