BIOGRAPHY

Gregory Lip is Consultant Cardiologist, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Director of the Haemostasis Thrombosis & Vascular Biology Unit at City Hospital Birmingham.

Professor Lip is an expert on atrial fibrillation, thrombosis and antithrombotic therapy. His research interests include: atrial fibrillation, hypertension, heart failure, thrombosis & antithrombotic therapy, and ethnic differences in vascular disease. Additionally, he has a major interest in the psychophysiology and in understanding of the disease process in cardiovascular disease (including atrial fibrillation), as well as physician and patient perceptions of antithrombotic management strategies.

He is Executive Editor of the Journal of Human Hypertension, Section Editor for Thrombosis & Haemostasis, and Associate Editor for Thrombosis Research. He is on the Editorial Boards of Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, Heart; ATVB, Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis; Hypertension, American Journal of Hypertension, and Blood Pressure. Professor Lip was Clinical Adviser to the guideline development group that wrote the UK National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) evidence-based national guidelines on the management of atrial fibrillation. He co-authored the American College of Chest Physicians Guidelines for Antithrombotic Therapy as well as guidelines from the European Heart Rhythm Association. He is a Nucleus Committee Member of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on 'Hypertension and the Heart', and is secretary of the Scientific Documents Committee of the European Heart Rhythm Association.
