BIOGRAPHY
My first degree was in physics and chemistry and included a year in the US doing physics and philosophy. Having worked in computing I did the MSc in Medical Statistics at LSHTM and worked in statistics and computing at The London Hospital and Medical College for 25 years. I have also been at the UK Medicines Control Agency and briefly at Quintiles where I mainly worked on the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry. Iam a co-opted member of the Pharmacovigilance (Drug Safety) Working Party at the European Medicines Agency and on the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety. I will be President of the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology for 2010/2011Teaching
I helped start the short course in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance and am currently co-course organiser and teach on that course. I also contribute to the DL MSc in Clinical Trials.
Research
Safety of medicines is my major interest. Assessment of safety and risk in a general sense, but particularly in trials and epidemiological studies, especially in databases, are the main topics. I am also interested in scientific fraud and misconduct, especially in clinical trials.
