BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Rubin received his BSc, Master of Engineering, and MD degrees from Tulane University. After completing medical studies, he went to Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar to do postdoctoral research in biomedical engineering and his initial Paediatric SHO jobs. He completed an MBA at the Babcock School of Management, Wake Forest University in 2004. In July 2009, he joined the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as the Jessie Ball duPont Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Dept of Pediatrics and Physician in Chief of the Childrens Hospital of Richmond. He is also Professor of Engineering and Adjunct Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at VCU and Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University.Dr. Rubin is on the Editorial Board of 12 pulmonary journals. He has published 4 books and more than 200 research papers and chapters and holds 5 patents. Dr. Rubin received ACCP Young Investigator award in 1989, the Critical Care Research Award in 1990, and the Alfred Soffer Award in 2004. He received the National Award for Disease Management by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2007, the Prix Extraordinaire by the International Congress of Pediatric Pulmonology in 2008, and the Forrest Bird Lifetime Scientific Achievement award by the AARC in 2008, and he gave the Donald Egan Keynote Lecture at the 2009 AARC meeting.
Dr. Rubins research is regulation of mucus clearance in health and disease and aerosol delivery of medications. He directs the only comprehensive Mucus Clearance Disorders clinic in North America for the assessment and treatment of adults and children with difficulty to manage mucus problems.
