Research interests: Perioperative cardiac risk: detection of perioperative ischemia; strategies to reduce perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality. Effects of anesthetics on cardiac function and outcome.

Examiner for the Swiss Diploma in Anaesthesiology (1995 - present).
Member (1995 - 2000) and president (2000 - present) of the Task Force ‘Transesophageal Echocardiograpy' of the Swiss Society of Anesthesia and Resuscitation.
Swiss Representative in the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (2002 - present).
Member of the TEE Accreditation Committee of the European Association of Echocardiography and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (2004 - present)
