Sharad Kumar - F1000 Faculty Member (since 04 July 2001)
Molecular Regulation Laboratory , Centre for Cancer Biology, Australia
BIOGRAPHY
Sharad Kumar is a Senior Principal Research Fellow and the Co-director of the Centre for Cancer Biology in Adelaide. He obtained his PhD from the University of Adelaide. Following this he worked at the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia), CSIRO Animal Health Laboratory (Geelong, Australia), RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Centre (Tsukuba, Japan), and the Cancer Institute (Tokyo, Japan), before returning to Adelaide in mid 1994. He discovered Nedd genes, including Nedd1, Nedd2 (caspase-2), Nedd4, Nedd5 (Sept2), Nedd8 and Nedd9. His laboratory also discovered a large part of the Drosophila cell death machinery and Nedd4 regulatory proteins, Ndfip1 and Ndfip2. His group now studies various aspects of apoptosis signaling and the regulation of ubiquitin-mediated protein turnover via the Nedd4 family of ubiquitin-protein ligases.EVALUATIONS
