Christoph Dehio - F1000 Faculty Member (since 06 July 2001)
Biozentrum, Department of Molecular Microbiology, University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland
BIOGRAPHY
ACADEMIC POSITION:Professor and Research Group Leader: Infection Biology, Biozentrum, University of Basel, Switzerland
EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND:
Dr Christoph Dehio studied Biology in Cologne, Germany and received a PhD in Genetics in 1992 for his work on the pathogenic interactions of Agrobacterium rhizogenes with host plants. From 1993-1995 he did a post-doc at the Institute Pasteur working on the mechanism of host cell invasion by the bacterial pathogen Shigella flexneri. From 1995 to 2000 he was a group leader in the Department of Infection Biology of the Max Planck Institute for Biology in Tuebingen, Germany, working on the mechanisms of host cell invasion by the bacterial pathogens Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Bartonella hensleae.
AWARDS:
Swiss 'Pfizer Forschungs-Preis 2006'
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Research focuses on the molecular analysis of pathogen-host cell interaction. The emerging pathogen Bartonella is used as a model to study mechanisms of host cell invasion and the process of pathogen-triggered angiogenesis.
