Pamela MellonDepartments of Reproductive Medicine and Neuroscience, University of California, San Diego, San Diego, CA, USA F1000 Faculty Member (since 15 November 2005)
Pamela Mellon is Professor of Reproductive Medicine and Neuroscience and Director of the Center for Reproductive Science and Medicine at UCSD. She is Director of the NICHD Center for Reproductive Science and Medicine, Director of the UCSD Transgenic Mouse and Embryonic Stem Cell Core, Director of the NIH Training Program in Reproductive Sciences, Director of the Women's Reproductive Health Research Training Center and Chair of the Awards Committee of Women in Endocrinology.
Her research group investigates the neuroendocrine regulation of mammalian reproduction at the molecular level. The group focus on the biology of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone neuron and the pituitary gonadotrope, the two cells that produce neuroendocrine hormones controlling reproduction. They study their development, their migration, their cell identity, transcriptional mechanisms, rhythms of secretion, signal transduction, and responses to neurotransmitters, growth factors, and hormones.
