EDUCATION:
Dr Basu’s pre-doctoral studies were at School of Life Sciences, Viswa-Bharati University, Santiniketan, doctoral work at Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Calcutta and post-doctoral work at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, USA.
MEMBERSHIPS/AWARDS/EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Dr Basu is the recipient of several scientific awards including National Bioscience Award for Career Development from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. He is also an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India. He sits on the editorial boards of the Scientific Reports, and Journal of Neuroinflammation.
Dr Basu is also the author of more than 70 scientific publications, and his current h-index is 20.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr Basu's pioneering research has dissected the crucial regulatory role of neuroinflammation in the pathogenesis of Japanese encephalitis (JE), the leading cause of viral encephalitis in India and entire Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, his research significantly contributed in the development of novel therapeutic strategy in the pathogenesis of Japanese Encephalitis. Dr Basu’s work not only provides a new and general principle for cure of the whole spectrum of neuroinflammatory diseases that include infection of the CNS, but also other neurodegenerative disorders that affects millions of people worldwide.
