ACADEMIC POSITION:
Professor for Plant Pathology, ETH Zürich

EDUCATION:
• BSc degree Plant Science, University of California at Riverside (1982)
• PhD degree Genetics, University of California at Davis (1987)

MEMBERSHIPS/AWARDS:
• Ruth Allen Award (1999)
• Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society (2005)
• Member of the Institute of Plant Sciences (IPW) and served one term as Head of the IPW
• One of the founding members of the new Institute of Integrative Biology (IBZ)

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
The Plant Pathology group at the ETH is best known for its research in pathogen population genetics, apple resistance breeding, and biological control of soil-borne pathogens.

Our research spans the spectrum in agriculture, from molecular- to ecosystem-orientation and from mathematical theory to field application. We consider this research breadth to be a strength as it allows us to train students in a cross-disciplinary fashion.
