FACULTY OF 1000:Harald HHW Schmidt joined Faculty of 1000 as a Faculty Member in the Hypertension Section on 14 August 2007.
On 26 February 2013, following an invitation from Darrell Abernethy, Stephanie W Watts and Susan Steinberg (Section Heads for the Cardiovascular Pharmacology Section), Harald was appointed as a Faculty Member of the Cardiovascular Pharmacology Section.

BACKGROUND:
Harald Schmidt is an MD and pharmacist and has worked in three continents, Europe, USA and Australia in leadership positions both in academia, biotech and industry. His work focusses on cardiovascular disease mechanisms, target validation, drug discovery and biomarkers within the context of personalised medicine. Currently he leads a research program as Advanced Investigator of the European Research Council and heads the department of Pharmacology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM). He also founded two biotech companies, one with a drug in late phase II clinical development. He serve also in several leadership positions in learned societies and scientific journals. Harald aims to further increase his scientific impact in the discovery of molecular mechanism of disease including translational aspects of drug discovery, diagnostics and imaging.
