Ramon SerranoInstituto de Biologia Molecular y Celular de Plantas, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia-CSIC, Spain F1000 Faculty Member (since 11 July 2001)
BIOGRAPHYBorn in Valencia, Spain, 1948. PhD at 1973, Madrid, under Alberto Sols (regulation of sugar transport in yeast). Postdoctoral work at New Orleans (Louisiana State University) with Richard E. Reeves (73-74, sugar transport in Entamoeba) and at Ithaca (Cornell University) with Efraim Racker (74-76, mitochondrial ATP synthase). Research position at the "Instituto de Enzimologia", CSIC, Madrid (76-85, plasma membrane H-ATPase of yeast and plants). Sabbatical work with Gerald R. Fink (85-86, Whitehead Institute, Boston), cloning yeast H-ATPase gene. From 1986 to 1991 Group Leader at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, EMBL, Heidelberg (molecular biology of H-ATPase). Since 1992, Professor at the "Universidad Politecnica de Valencia", working at the "Instituto de Biologia Molecular y Celular de Plantas" (molecular biology of ion homeostasis and salt tolerance in yeast and plants).
