BIOGRAPHY

CURRENT POSITION:
Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Health & Human Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire and the Prostate Centre, London.

BACKGROUND:
Professor Michael Kirby worked as a general practitioner in Letchworth, and as a GPSI in the Cardiology Department at QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, 1973-2007. He was Director of HertNet (The Hertfordshire Primary Care Research Network) 1998-2007. The practice provided an open access echocardiography service for patients with heart failure for the North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust. At the current time, he is Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences, consultant to the Centre for Research In Primary And Community Care (CRIPACC) at the University of Hertfordshire and to the Institute of Diabetes in Older People (IDOP) at the University of Bedfordshire. His clinical work is now at the Prostate Centre in London, where he deals with cardiovascular, metabolic, urologic and endocrine problems.

MEMBERSHIPS:
He is an Associate Member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He also holds membership of several NHS advisory boards.

EDITORIAL POSITIONS:
He is editor in chief of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal (PCCJ), on the editorial board of the British Journal of Primary Care Nursing, the British Journal of Cardiology, Geriatric Medicine and the International Journal of Clinical Practice.

SPECIAL INTERESTS:
His special interests include cardiology, diabetes, osteoporosis, men’s health, urology and education. He has published more than 400 clinical papers and 30 books.
