EDUCATION:
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research 1975- 1980, Chandigarh, India
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Our laboratory's main interest is focussed on understanding the molecular mechanisms of bile formation with respect to the role of bile acid transporters and how they are dysregulated in various intra- and extrahepatic cholestatic liver disease. Current work is centered on the molecular details of dissecting the various coregulators that assemble at the promoters of genes for Na-cotransporting polypeptide(Ntcp), Bile salt export pump (Bsep) and Multidrug resistance protein 2(Mrp2). Animal models utilized consist of various strains of mice in which LPS (Lipopolysaccharide) is injected to induce intrahepatic cholestasis and bile duct ligation is performed surgically to simulate extrahepatic cholestasis.
