RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Dr Astors research is focused on the interaction between kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, and their impact on the population. His research involves cohort studies of individuals with kidney failure (e.g. Choices for Healthy Outcomes in Caring for ESRD [CHOICE] Study), individuals with chronic kidney disease (e.g. Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort [CRIC] Study), and the general population (e.g. Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities [ARIC] Study), as well as utilizing publicly available datasets (e.g. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey [NHANES]). These studies are undertaken in an attempt to better understand the connection between kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in the population, and identify areas of intervention to minimize the burden of these diseases.
