ACADEMIC POSITION:Dr Kishor M Wasan is a Distinguished University Scholar Professor & Chair of Pharmaceutics and National Director of the Canadian Summer Student Research Program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada since February 1995.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
He received his BSc in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985 and his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences/Medical School at Houston in 1993. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Lipoprotein Biochemistry in the Department of Cell Biology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Research Institute.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
In the 11 years that Dr Wasan has been an independent researcher at UBC, he has published over 130 peer-review articles and 150 abstracts in the area of lipid-based drug delivery and lipoprotein-hydrophobic drug interactions.
Dr Wasan was the Associate Editor of the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and is on the editorial board of several prestigious peer-reviewed journals including Pharmaceutical Research. In addition, Dr Wasan has been a member of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Pharmaceutical Sciences Grant Review Committee (Study Section).
AWARDS:
Dr Wasan was one of the recipients of the 1993 AAPS Graduate Student Awards for Excellence in Graduate Research in Drug Delivery and Pharmaceutical Technologies and recently was awarded the 2001 AAPS New Investigator Award/Grant in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutics Technologies sponsored by Pfizer Central Research and the 2002 Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada AstraZeneca New Investigator Research Award. Recently, Dr Wasan was awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research University-Industry Research Chair in Pharmaceutical Development (2003-2008) and was recently named a University Distinguished Scholar in April 2004. In January 2001, with funding from the Merck Company Foundation, Dr Wasan established a Canadian Summer Student Research Program for Undergraduate Pharmacy Students. Furthermore, Dr Wasan received the 2001/2002 University of British Columbia Killam Teaching Prize in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Currently Dr Wasan's research is supported by several grants from The Canadian Institutes of Health Research, several pharmaceutical companies and the National Cancer Institute of Canada-Clinical Trials Group.
