Dr. Suerbaum received his M.D. from Bochum Medical School in 1989 and is a board-certified specialist physician in Medical Microbiology and Infection Epidemiology. He performed his doctoral studies on the influence of antibiotics on the immunogenicity of outer membrane components of E. coli with Dr. Wolfgang Opferkuch, and postdoctoral work on Helicobacter pathogenesis at the Pasteur Institute with Dr. Agnès Labigne. Subsequently, he held faculty positions at the Universities of Bochum and Wuerzburg, and was appointed to his current position as Professor of Medical Microbiology and Director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Epidemiology at Hannover Medical School in 2003. Dr. Suerbaums main research interests are the molecular pathogenesis, population genetics, and genomics of Helicobacter spp.Awards:
