The elusive vesicular protein essential for docking of secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane has finally been identified here (at least in chromaffin cells) as -- surprisingly -- synaptotagmin, the Ca2+ sensor responsible for triggering synchronous vesicle fusion in endocrine/exocrine cells and at neuronal synapses.
