We studied whether baseline levels of circulating galectin-3, a biomarker of myocardial fibrosis, inflammation and consequent myocardial remodeling, identify heart failure (HF) patients at higher risk of unplanned hospital readmission.
Galectin-3 measurement upon discharge from hospitalization for HF or emergency department visit for HF predicts likelihood for near-term HF rehospitalization.
